Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add the corn, vegetable broth, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Transfer the soup to a blender and blend until smooth.
Return the soup to the pot and stir in the cream.
Heat the soup over medium heat until warmed through.
