Wash the red gram dal and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and let them crackle.
Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few seconds.
Add the chopped onion, green chilies, and tomato and sauté until the onion turns golden brown.
Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt and mix well.
Add the soaked red gram dal and 2 cups of water and mix well.
Close the lid of the pressure cooker and cook for 3-4 whistles.
Once the pressure is released, open the lid and mash the dal with a spoon.
Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
