Soak the chana dal in water for at least 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. When they start to crackle, add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilli.
Add the diced lauki and sauté for a few minutes.
Add the soaked chana dal, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, amchur powder and salt.
Add 2 cups of water and bring to a boil.
Reduce the heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the dal is cooked.
Add the cumin powder, coriander leaves and lemon juice.
Serve hot with chapatis or rice.
