The 7 Best Vegan Protein Sources

When we think about protein, we either think about fish, meat or daily products. While they are the major sources of protein, there are quite some foods that are the best sources of vegan protein.

Soy Products

Every 100 g of soy products contains approx.15-20 g of protein. Other than this, soybeans are a rich source of amino acids, edamame is high in folate & vitamin K and Tempeh is an excellent source of probiotics.

Beans

Beans have a high protein content per serving. They come in multiple varieties, including kidney, black, pinto, chickpeas etc and every 100 g serving of beans contains around 20g of protein.

Fruits & Vegetables

Generally fruits and vegetables have a considerable amount of protein. Some protein-rich fruits are guava, cherimoya, berries etc. and broccoli, spinach, asparagus, and artichoke are vegetables that are good sources of protein.

Mycoprotein

Mycoprotein is a plant protein with antimicrobial properties and can be an alternative to meat. Every 100 grams of mycoprotein contains 15–16g of protein.

Lentils

Lentils are a fantastic source of protein. They provide nearly 24g of protein per 100 g serving. Also, lentils are an excellent source of fibre that aids digestion.

Yeast

A 100 g portion of yeast contains nearly 50g of protein. Additionally, enriched nutritional yeast is a good source of zinc, magnesium, copper, manganese, and B vitamins.

Seitan

Seitan is a popular source of protein for a large number of vegetarians and vegans. It is composed of gluten, the primary protein that is found in wheat.
