Indian recipes with basil leaves

1. Daal with basil leaves

Delight your taste buds with this delicious and healthy daal!
Here’s how to make it!
Course Snack

Ingredients
  

  • 0.5 cup Moong or Toor Dal
  • 1.5 cup Water
  • 0.5 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 Green chili
  • 0.5 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 0.5 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 0.25 cup Basil leaves
  • 0.25 cup Sliced onion
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Oil/Ghee

Instructions
 

  • Wash and soak dal for 30-40 minutes
  • Drain water and pressure cook with freshwater, turmeric powder, and a pinch of salt for 3-4 whistles
  • Allow pressure to release naturally
  • Heat oil/ghee in a pan. Once hot, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and let them splutter
  • Add finely green chili, onions, ginger, and garlic paste and fry for 5 minutes or until onions turn slightly brown
  • Next, add turmeric powder, salt, roughly chopped basil leaves, cooked dal, and mix well
  • Add warm water if required to adjust consistency and bring it to a boil
  • Simmer for another 5 minutes and take off the flame

2. Tangy tomato rice with a twist of basil

Ingredients
  

  • 2 medium-sized Tomato
  • 1 cup Cooked rice
  • 0.25 cup Basil leaves
  • 2 finely chopped Green chilies
  • 1 tsp Garlic ginger paste
  • 1 tsp oil/ghee
  • a dash Black pepper powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 2 springs, chopped Coriander leaves

Instructions
 

  • Take tomatoes and boil until the skin starts to peel
  • Peel off the skin and chop them into small pieces
  • Heat oil/ghee in a pan. Once hot, add green chili, garlic ginger paste and fry for a minute
  • Add tomatoes, basil leaves and cook for 2-3 minutes
  • Add cooked rice, black pepper powder, salt and mix well
  • Cook for a couple of minutes and take off the flame
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot

3. Basil tea

Ingredients
  

  • 7-8 Basil leaves
  • 1 cup Water
  • 0.25 tsp Organic Honey
  • a dash Cardamom powder

Instructions
 

  • Heat a pan, add water along with basil leaves and cardamom powder
  • Bring it to a boil and simmer for 3-4 minutes or until the brew becomes aromatic
  • Take off the flame and pour into a mug
  • Stir in honey and serve warm
